Nix

Under construction…
My journey with Nix began in the spring of 2024. I first heard about Nix on Reddit where I saw that many people use it to organize their dotfiles. This piqued my interest in improving my own dotfiles. I wanted a convenient way to share configurations for my favorite tools, ideally with an automated process to install these configurations, or better yet, along with those tools. At that time on my personal laptop I used Arch Linux BTW 😉. On Arch Linux there is no problem with installing the latest versions of various programs. It has a rich official repository and an additional one driven by the community called the AUR (Arch Linux User Repository). But at work I had to use Ubuntu where it wasn't so easy. In the official repository the programs I was looking for either weren't available or were several versions behind. I had to look for some unofficial packages on Launchpad or as a last resort compile from source code. It wasn't the perfect solution, it was very tedious, so Nix caught my attention.
